About this deal

Officially licensed in 1815, by owners Donald and Alexander Johnston, Laphroaig Distillery had almost certainly already been producing whisky for a number of years before the excise man came knocking. Laphroaig 10 gets its distinctive taste from the natural features of Islay, the remote and rugged island off the West Coast of Scotland where the whisky is made. One of whom was Ian Hunter, who laid down the process for Laphroaig 10 more than 75 years ago: and these methods are still followed today. Laphroaig's commitment to direct-fired stills adds to the intensity of the peat influence, resulting in whiskies that carry a powerful and evocative smokiness.

I have drunk more Laphroaig 10 over the past forty years than all the other whiskies added together. It took the crown from Lagavulin 16 over two years ago and every so often I do a taste test between Lag 16, Arbeg 10 and Lap 10 and each time I prefer the Lap. Laphroaig 10 is matured in ex-bourbon barrels for at least ten years and has a distinct peaty flavour. Founded on Islay in 1815, the Laphroaig distillery has been creating distinctive Scotch whisky for over two centuries.Others can be deceiving - I have a bottle of Ledaig, the Tobermory peated expression, which smells like creme brulee and mashed potato on the nose - not a hint of peat until it hits the tongue. This is a truly classic single malt Scotch whisky, made from malted barley which is first cold-smoked and then dried over a peat fire.

From a 25km-long, storm-buffeted island off the west coast of Scotland comes Laphroaig (pronounced ‘la-froyg’), a Gaelic word meaning ‘beautiful hollow by the broad bay’. Aromas of new shoe leather, iodine, smoked trout, flowers, intense grain, soft cheese, peat-reek and dried seaweed. These cookies are needed for essential functions such as signing in, storing products in your trolley and making payments. It is extremely aromatic and pungent - you can always tell when someone is drinking a dram of Laphroaig as you can smell the distinct tarriness from the other end of the room. Laphroaig 10 year old is the original Laphroaig, distilled the same way today as when Ian Hunter invented it more than 75 years ago. Although I was gifted a bottle of Ardbeg 10 at Christmas and that gives this a good run for it's money mind. Hilarious to read the bad reviews complaining that it doesn’t taste as good as bourbons like JD or other piss water American rubbish. Palate: The Original Cask Strength is sweet and spicy with notes of vanilla, toffee and sea salt along with hints of cinnamon and pepper.

It’s what layers notes of Manuka honey and grilled bacon onto our renowned flavours of peat smoke and seaweed. The palate entry is pleasantly smoky and grainy sweet; the midpalate flavors range from olive brine, seaweed, iodine, and wood smoke to baked pear, toffee and marshmallow. Laphroaig 10 Year Old was first released in 2004 and has since become a popular expression of the Laphroaig whisky brand. Our eco-friendly approach doesn't compromise on protection, ensuring your items are safe during transit.
