This charming children’s book is perfect for ages 7 to 10 and is filled with cute illustrations of and fun facts about Wales. I’m sure she will love this book the images are captivating and the story is beautifully written full of interesting facts about the dormouse and it’s habitat.

But I noticed three things which appear to be too much even for a retired academic’s scholarly detachment, and a tone of understandable sharpness creeps in. It’s a story with added educational value: questions about Spikey on each page are divided into two sections: simpler ones for readers five to seven years old, about what has happened in the story, and what might happen next; and harder and deeper questions for readers from seven years old and above, about what the characters (and the reader) feel, think and understand.
