Description
Chromatic aberrations, typically seen as purple or blue fringes along contrasty edges, were not too much of a problem in our test shots, as shown in the examples below. Samyang AF lenses: More recently, Samyang has brought autofocus prime lenses to the market. Most of these are designed for Sony mirrorless cameras, in full-frame FE-mount. There are currently nine in total, ranging from the AF 14mm f/2.8 FE to the AF 85mm f/1.4 FE, both of which are also available in Canon RF-mount editions. Samyang has additionally created 14mm and 85mm autofocus lenses in Canon EF and Nikon F mount options, but with a different design to the mirrorless lenses. La bague de mise au point qui se transforme en bague d’ouverture sans clics permet une variation de l’ouverture continue et silencieuse.
Fujifilm cameras are engineered to control the aperture according to the minimum exposure value(F-stop), so when the camera controls the aperture, it blinks momentarily to set the proper exposure.Falloff of illumination towards the corners is typical of a fast aperture lens like this. The corners are 2.28 stops darker than the image centre at f/1.4 and visually uniform illumination is achieved by f/5.6. Samyang describe this lens as a 'Portrait lens', which may explain some of the characteristics of its optical performance. At f/1.4 sharpness in the centre of the frame is only fairly good, and towards the edges, 'dreamy' would be a good way of describing the clarity here. This is all well and good for flattering a portrait subject, but not for much else. Stopping the lens down improves clarity across the frame, but the sharpness towards the edges still lags way behind that of the centre until around f/8. Peak sharpness across the frame is achieved between f/8 and f/11. I consistently saw more skin textures from the Sigma in my direct comparisons between the two lenses, though whether that’s a pro or a con depends on your preference in a portrait lens. Also interesting is that I didn’t really see a color difference between the two lenses. Historically Samyang lenses have trended towards warmer tones, but it seems like recent lenses have a more neutral color profile. The best standpoint from which to appreciate the full view of a subject is the distance of the diagonal length of the subject frame. This wider angle is superior to standing closer at a 50 degree angle to get a more detailed view.
We don't list every single Samyang lens in this guide, just those we've tested that are especially interesting to photographers There is no hyperfocal distance scale, or hard infinity stop, which is unusual for a lens like this, which uses no low dispersion glass in its optical design. The Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE (also known as the Rokinon AF 85mm f/1.4 in the USA) is a new fast portrait prime lens for full-frame Sony Alpha cameras. It's also the latest Samyang lens to feature auto-focusing, incorporating an Ultrasonic Dual Linear stepping motor for smooth and accurate autofocusing. I will note that I’ve used the AF85 for a few of my YouTube segments and it did a much better job than the AF 35mm in not pulsing in and out of focus, however. I just selected a zone, and when I was in that zone the autofocus was actually quite stable (basically flawless after the Firmware 3.0 update for the a7R3). Its complex optical construction is comprised of 11 glass elements, among which are special High Refractive (HR) glass, which successfully allow both a compact size and high image resolution. The achromatic design, incorporating Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass, effectively corrects chromatic aberrations and minimizes peripheral softness, creating lively images in vivid colors.
Chromatic aberrations can be quite prevalent towards the edges of the frame at f/1.4, although if you're shooting portraits you may never see this, unless you place high contrast edges towards the periphery. Stopping down reduces any fringing, with fringing falling to more acceptable levels already by f/2. I would like to see Samyang continue to refine the autofocus through firmware update (and I believe they will), but for the primary task of shooting portraits, this lens already does great. Eye AF works very well, and, while I don’t believe the autofocus to be fast enough for sports action, it is fast and quiet enough for event work, portraiture, and the kinds of general purpose shooting it was designed for. All in all, I think the AF85 does what it needs to, and I look forward to shooting with it more in the future. Sony shooters now have a reasonable F1.4 alternative to the excellent Sony FE 85mm F1.8 lens! A little pincushion distortion is revealed by our lab tests but it’s generally quite hard to spot in real-world shots. Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4: Verdict Quote:It's a matter of availablility rather than choice, but the good news is that an A7R III suddenly became available, a bit late in the day but I've just completed another set of Imatest results and hopefully Josh can add those results in the near future.Optics are strong, too. When the lens hits focus, it's incredibly sharp. But there is some false color visible, a concern for Raw photographers, and autofocus isn't as consistent as you get with name-brand alternatives. The sharpness is very good wide open and excellent as of F2 and skin rendering is very good but maybe a bit too contrasty sometimes AF is fast, globally accurate and quiet in photo and video. In burst mode it is not as good and the lens loose sometimes the focus Tip. If the moving distance is long, the camera may shake, so please shoot at a focal length between 35 and 100mm.
As seen in the photos below, it rather dwarves the full-frame Sony A7 III camera that we tested it with, especially when the large lens hood is attached.not corrected corrected F1.4 CA /AC F1.4 crop 100% CA / AC LoCA / AC longitudinales crop 100% F16.
