An extended epilogue would have been nice considering everything that they go through, but the book did end on a note that I enjoyed. Also, this book talks about Hurricane Katrina and how so many families were broken apart and forced to flee New Orleans, and become refuges in their own country. You feel her constant headaches and the wrenching pain in her heart even as you breathe in her strengthening poise and resolve. She is singular, obliterating every kiss that came before her, eliminating the possibility of anyone else ever tasting this good.

The harrowing brutality of Iris's story left me torn between not being able to put it down and wanting to take a break. Don't get me wrong, Iris and August's romance gave me all the feels, but Iris' personal journey in this novel touched me even more. His strength and depth of character make this great man a man who for whom you'll forever be in love. There is plenty of tension and steam too, as well as a bunch of heart warming moments and a sprinkle of the mystic too.

With the visual clarity of the author’s vivid, heartfelt, and passionate words, this story felt real, raw and painfully open and honest. Her story broke me at times, it felt so real, because it is real for a lot of people, but it gave me hope. I signed up for the "bonus epilogue" that's to be released in April, but I'm really frustrated that I had to. The look on her face is wondrous, as if she’s suspended between realities, has wandered into a fantasy and is drowning in this rapture.
