Overall, I found this racquet fun to play with. It was a little different from what I’m used to and I missed the slightly heavier head of my Armortec 900 Power. It certainly got me wondering what would happen if you combined the two and had the heavier head with the flexible shaft?It’s advertised with Isometric technology to create a larger sweet spot making it easier to hit the shuttle cleanly. First of all I have to question why you need another racquet. You already have two excellent Yonex racquets. So, what are you looking for that you haven’t found in either of those racquets? In an attempt to make this more tangible, I’ll give you an arbitrary number as that can sometimes be easier to understand. It felt as if I was able to hit one meter (roughly one yard) further on a clear, or with 25% more power, when using the powerful Yonex Astrox 100 Game compared to the Arcsaber 11 Play if I didn’t concentrate hard on my technique during the shot (as is often the case if we’re under pressure during a match). ENHANCED ARCSABER FRAME - Control with confidence through this unique frame structure with varying levels of flex from top, sides, to bottom, built to increase shuttle hold while reducing instability and twisting at impact. I say “should” because I found it similar to the Arcsaber 11 Play in being strong across the board with no obvious downsides, but also found that I had to adjust my technique quite a bit to get the full use out of it. I often mistimed my shots with the Astrox 77 Play and at times, I struggled to feel the tad bit extra head power when comparing them directly.

I noticed that the added control over the shuttle was especially handy on tight shots around the net and midcourt where a slight difference in placement can make or break a shot. The Play edition I’ve been play-testing in this review is made in China, with cheaper material, and in part, different technology. It’s super affordable at about a third of the price of the Pro, which is made in Japan. The Tour falls somewhere in the middle and is made in Taiwan. Also the stringing pattern is different which means the racquet can be strung to a higher tension without invalidating your Yonex warranty. Whilst these don’t appear to me much, they do in fact make a huge difference to a player. Some would find the stiff shaft to hard to handle and struggle to get any power from the racquet. Others will find the Arc 7 way to flexible and feel that they do not get the response off the stringbed they are looking for, that a stiffer racquet can provide. The Arcsaber 7 Play’s more flexible shaft makes it suitable for beginners, whereas the Arcsaber 11 Play is for you if your technique is around the intermediate level. One way to look at it is that it helps you hit and guide the shuttle towards where you want it to, which if you’re only looking to hammer shots off, might not matter as much to you.

Again, the better racquets are strung that little bit tighter which helps to test, rather than have to restring the racquet first. Out of the bag and straight onto court.
