If you're looking for more range and don't mind switching lenses, go for something like the 55-300VR (or the more expensive 70-300VR if you plan to eventually move to full frame). The only reason I often shoot a fancier camera is that I have to go into menus to set the advanced features of the D3300, while my bigger cameras usually have dedicated knobs or buttons to let me make those adjustments more quickly.With 1080/60p HD video capture, 5 fps burst shooting and 700-shot battery life it provides a beginner with some useful tools to experiment with. The control layout is a good starting place for casual shooters, but there are a couple of things missing.I can get through a full battery in about an hour when I am constantly taking video, so it’s important to have at least one fully charged backup battery on hand. It’s cheap, it’s really light, and it makes taking photos so much easier if you have a shaky hand like I do.

There is no wireless connectivity on the D3300, but for wired connections, the camera supports high-speed USB 2. AF-S (focus and lock), AF-C (continuous AF) and AF-A (automatic selection depending on if subject moves or not. Dust reduction System consists of Image sensor cleaning, Image Dust Off reference data (optional Capture NX 2 software required). Basic options include Auto, No Flash, Distant Subjects, Close-Ups, Sleeping Faces, Moving Subjects, Landscapes, Portraits, Night Portraits, and Night Landscapes. No worries, most people don't even know what these adjustments do, which is why the D3300 does away with the extra buttons to save us all money — and all the features are still there in the menu system.
