Following his degree, Adam served a year as the Students' Union President whilst simultaneously working as a freelance illustrator. Starting in pre-modernity and covering history up to the present day, the book gives information about ghosts in different forms and cultures, hauntings and ghosts in popular culture. Since then, Adam has worked for a variety of clients such as Apple, The Economist, Deloitte and Monocle. If you already know your stuff then you might not get too much out of this, but it still makes a nice book to have on the shelf and loan to guests. I struggled through the start because the formatting was all over the place on my kindle app, until a friend suggested using the NetGalley Shelf App which totally changed it!

This reads more as an introductory guide and would be suitable for younger readers although it is classed as adult fiction. There were some instances of 'this may have been' and 'some historians believe' without clarity on who, and how credible, these opinions are.

Prepare to embark on a strange journey that allows skeptical inquiry, or perhaps the possibility of believing in the afterlife! It's weird that it doesn't work properly on the kindle app as I can read graphic novels on there no problem but this just didn't work at all. I also appreciated Boardman’s inclusivity in his accounts of the religious meanings of spirits, hoaxes, and other topics.

What stops this from being a perfect book is that it skips from ghost to ghost with a very quick pace.Whether ghosts are the souls of the dead, windows in time or interdimensional beings, cultures through the ages have responded with fear and fascination to their horrific haunts and eerie appearances. I think this one appealed to me a little bit more, guess I’m just more of a ghost fan than aliens, but I feel that each of these works, with their useful glossaries and resources, would be quite appropriate for teens and preteens who are interested in outré subjects. The illustrations in this book are what really sells it though, they are so eye catching and perfect for the subject matter. Instead, Ghosts feels much more targeted towards much younger readers and offers a very high-level overview of a broad variety of things pertinent to ghosts, but never really leverages the spooky subject matter or the unique advantages of illustration to offer something more tangible. The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults.

I had hoped for more real ghost stories that I could share round a campfire, but there wasn’t really a single story that I could share. The illustrations were simple but fun but again could have been better in some places as more detail was needed in some areas of the book visually. Adam Allsuch Boardman has explored the world of ghosts in this volume in a visual and anecdotal manner that I don't think I've seen.I understand it's a short book, but some of the things mentioned are glossed over to the point it really wasn't worth including them. Whether you are a ghost fanatic or simply piqued by curiosity, you'll get a robust deep dive into the experiences of paranormal occurrences, alternative explanations for these occurrences, and our culture's fascination with them. Like Adam Allsuch Boardman’s earlier work with Nobrow Press, An Illustrated History of UFOs, An Illustrated History of Ghosts is a stylishly produced, colorful piece of graphic art that provides a basic but thorough introduction to ghostly myths and legends throughout the world. His gorgeous graphic illustrations of which there are many, make his guide to the afterlife fun like no other. The style of this book is very much a mix of historical and factual information on the paranormal (and those who took advantage of people’s gullibility around it), and all the fun pop culture stuff!

Through modern media, use of a ghost has become quite generic and somewhat one dimensional, so to learn about the different kinds of ghost and apparition (and some of the history behind each) is really cool.Thank you so much to the publishers for providing me with an eArc of this book in exchange for my honest review. It covers ghost stories, ghosts in media, haunted houses, places, objects, ghost hunters, ghosts in different cultures…the list goes on. kind of reminded me of a grown up horrible histories style of book, the illustration style is fairly similar! It did touch upon a lot of different subjects such as haunted locations, ghost legends and the media etc… but again it was too brief and was mostly a couple of sentences for each explanation.
