It's made only with spirit that has been distilled between October and March, and interestingly enough, they suggest that you try serving this expression frozen! Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold is a 2015 expansion to the Highland refinery's reach propelled by the crisp atmosphere up in the remote piece of Scotland where their single malt Scotch whisky is refined. Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold is an innovative bottling from Diageo offering a different kind of whisky drinking experience. The idea of serving a dram chilled and having it slowly warm up as you’re drinking it is quite enticing.

I was surprised to see that Dalwhinnie can hold up to its good track record, even when making NAS (non-age stated) whisky with marketing hype. This may affect nutrition and allergen information therefore you should always check product labels and not rely solely on the information presented here.Being Scotland’s highest and coldest distillery, you may expect the folks at Dalwhinnie to know a little something about subzero temperatures.

You should also note that the picture images show only our serving suggestions of how to prepare your food - all table accessories and additional items and/or ingredients pictured with the product you are purchasing are not included. Made in the highest and coldest working distillery in Scotland, with water from a loch at 2000 feet, Dalwhinnie whisky thrives on extreme conditions – creating a liquid as sweet and accessible as its highland home is remote. Its crisp, dry and fragrant nose and smooth flavours of heather, honey-sweetness, malt and citrus-fruits lead to a lingering, sweet finish with smoke, peat and malt.

Palate: Light and fresh, hint of grassiness, nuttiness, bread-y, malt, again pears and citrus and also pepper and oak spices. The 2021-release of vintage Distillers Edition of Dalwhinnie was distilled in 2006 and double-matured in ex-bodega Oloroso casks. Each of the Distiller's Editions are finished in a different wood – the sherry cask adds a layer of rich fruit to this magnificent expression. A 15-year-old Glenallachie single malt, matured in a combination of Pedro Ximenez and oloroso sherry casks, creating a smooth, rich character.

The flavours arrive slowly as the whisky warms in your mouth, like a bowl of cereal to which we’re gradually adding fruits and spices. Made using whisky distilled in the cold Scottish winter, it is intended to be served from the freezer, delivering richness and sweetness as the glass warms up. A few months ago we had a Dalwhinnie event at our local whisky club, going over the full official line up of the distillery, giving me a perfect opportunity to check out again the Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old after not tasting it for a while.Indeed, distillation takes longer and interactions with the still are more numerous, which makes it possible to obtain a softer malt than usual. Dalwhinnie distillery is situated very high above sea level in the Grampian mountains in Highland region, very near to the geographical center of Scotland as well. There’s the tart taste of slightly unripe pear and a dash of lime, giving way to a more earthy profile that’s sweetened by a few drops of honey. Someone once told me that if you need to freeze a drink before you consume it, it’s probably not very good.
