Description

It follows in the vein of Roald Dahl stories, with delightfully quirky illustrations (in the Kindle version, at least), to accompany the at-times alarming story of 12-year old Alfie.

He has gone on to take the children’s literary world by storm, dominating sales charts and twice winning the National Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year. The characters are well-drawn, in particular hero Alife, who is also a carer for his disabled dad, and the terrible villain really is truly demonic. So I decided to read his book and I wanna say what I said a million times(probably not) in this review.

This is one of the VERY, VERY ,VERY best and FUNNIEST books I've ever read, and I've been reading a number of books for young adults and children lately, and as I haven't been well, this has been more than a real TONIC for me! Even the characters that played a very small part had marked differences from each other and seemed real! It is up to Alfie and fellow outcast, the tiny girl with straggly hair and sardonic wit, Gabz, to save the day. This delightfully dark offering from comedian-turned-bestselling author David Walliams is certain to entertain young readers. Join Alfie and Gabz on this fabulous adventure, as they investigate the strange events happening in their home town!

Having started from humble origins, Joe’s father is now a billionaire, and Joe has everything he wants, except true friends. His books have now been translated into 40+ languages, and also include picture books illustrated by Tony Ross. Alfie lives in a dilapidated bungalow with an invalid father, who fell ill when working in a coal mine, while his mother had passed on years ago. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites.

Initially I had bought a few of the David Walliams books for my son as was recommended in the school read list. This last detail is the basis of the story and it may seem like an inconsequential nugget, but the brilliance of Williams's storycraft is how he manages to create a comedic situation from the rather dire circumstances of Alfie's life by focusing on this one area. If people are getting scared by a flipping book, then they're obviously soft and need to get a grip.
