About this deal

Previous Samsung TVs, like the Samsung S95B OLED, have been caught optimizing the peak brightness for reviewers. That isn't the case with this TV, which performs the same regardless of window size:

Samsung has a powerful "AI" video processor but most of the power is channeled into dynamic video systems that we prefer to deactivate to ensure accurate picture quality. In SDR mode, QN95B delivers much more accurate and balanced pictures than in HDR, partly because it can be set to respect the SDR standards and partly because the zone dimming systems does not have to work so aggressively to stay within SDR content's boundaries. The Mini LED light source is further enhanced with the addition of 14-bit HDR Mapping (which adds even more details to dark and bright scenes), while the Quantum Matrix Technology (which controls the Mini LEDs) is made even more accurate with Shape Adaptive Light control. Samsung’s mini-LED debutantes last year were so good they instantly changed our expectations of what LCD TVs were capable of. The QN95B doesn't deliver quite the same leap forwards, but it's clearly still significantly better than its predecessor. This TV also has Samsung’s ambient mode, a screensaver-style display closely associated with the Samsung The Frame (2022). While the Samsung QN95B Neo QLED TV doesn’t have the framed, museum-esque bezels, ambient mode makes the TV look great when it’s not being watched. Gaming abilities were tested predominantly with a mixture of Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2, especially in 120Hz mode, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, and Dirt 5. Brightness measurements were taken using an X-Rite i1 Display Pro light meter, while input lag was tested using a Leo Bodnar HDMI Video Signal Lag tester.

It's difficult to say whether LG C2 OLED or Samsung QN95B QLED's smart TV platform is superior. Honestly, they're not all that much different. Both offer access to hundreds of streaming services and other apps. In fact, colour tones are reproduced so finely that they prove a perfect pixel by pixel match for the screen’s native resolution, joining the precision of Samsung’s processing in producing pictures that look ultra-sharp even by premium 4K TV standards. Looking for evidence of just why Samsung might be so bullish about the QN95B, we suspect the answer lies in its brightness. Our own measurements found it capable of dazzling your retinas with nearly 2,900 nits at a time where even the current best OLED TVs are only just nudging beyond 1,000 nits. We don’t know yet how bright Samsung’s QD-OLEDs might get, but early word suggests it won’t be anything like as bright as the QN95B. This is the brand new flagship Samsung 4K Tv that we didn’t get last year. It’s a Harvey Norman exclusive and thankfully it has the One Connect box meaning that we now get four full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports, which was only on the 8K model last year. The One Connect box is also 20% slimmer. It comes in 55″, 65″ and 75″ and I had the privilege of seeing the 75″ model in the flesh. Do you know exactly what the blooming effect looks like on the TV and how the unclean display is created? If not, we’ll explain it to you.

As my main TV in the lounge is an LG C9, the settings menu of the QN95B is not quite as intuitive. For example there were originally only two picture settings available (adaptive and optimised) and later found out that as I had intelligent mode on in general settings this was stopping the standard, filmmaker, dynamic settings. The QN95B supports high dynamic range in the form of HDR10, HLG (hybrid log-gamma) and HDR10+. Sadly, Samsung still refuses to support Dolby Vision, but given the native HDR capabilities of this TV it’s debatable how much benefit the dynamic metadata format would add.
