About this deal

THE CLIFF HOUSE by RaeAnne Thayne has everything fans will love, with enough surprises to give you more than one book boyfriend to sigh over. I just walk and talk into my phone, or actually a wee lapel mic these days. I feel the ideas flow when I’m outdoors,” continues the writer. Edie then starts to develop feelings for Tamsyn’s brother and it seems the girls friendship will suffer. You are often inspired by locations – sometimes it is imagining what might take place in that location or sometimes it is something about the atmosphere that suggests something. Amanda writes her characters so well; like Tamsyn I became captured by The Cliff House, especial

I also really, REALLY hated the fact that EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER came from some MAJOR dysfunctional past. EVERY ONE. Not just a little messed up pasts, but HUGE things. About halfway through I was just thinking PLEASE, make someone normal. Peter Hartlaub, "Woodward's Gardens Comes to Life in New Book", San Francisco Chronicle (October 30, 2012). Stella Davenport receives the best 40th birthday present, ever, and she plans to keep this news secret for a while longer – not everyone will be as excited as she is about it. They’d be happy for her, of course, but this news will cause a few ripples among those who love her and will think her insane. And then there’s that college boyfriend she hasn’t seen for twenty years that shows up on her doorstep.Cliff House is as much of a character as the people themselves – the presence that it has over the cliff adds to the atmospherics of the story and gives it a gothic edge. As for the other characters, I cannot say I completely liked any of them but there were parts of each of them I did like and could understand why their flaws were there, what made them act in the way they did. All of the characters were well developed and their individual flaws added to the overall tone and atmospherics of the book.

Years before, Stella pretty much put her life on hold to take in her teenage nieces when her sister died. But the year they were in foster-care, before she found out about their mother's death and her ability to take them in, a bad group home had changed the normally up-beat Daisy. There were too many characters vying for the coveted hero and heroine roles. Not one, not two, but THREE separate storylines all competed for the reader's attention, and ALL of them suffered for it. There was no development. There was no working through issues, because there was no time for any issues of consequence to occur. We were rushing from one character to the next and barely scraping the surface of what COULD have been three decent stories.

What I loved about this book was not just the journey for each of the characters but the theme of love in this book. Not just romantic love, but the power of love in general whether it be romantic love, familial love, or self love. I felt encouraged and happy about this book even if at times my heart broke for some of the characters. The girls strike up a great friendship but Tamsyn’s Mum is wary as she is the cleaner for the family, and knows deep down the mother, Eleanor is not a pleasant person. After the death of their mother, Beatriz (Bea) and Daisy spent some time in foster care before being raised by their Aunt Stella. Raising her two nieces at a young age, inspired Stella to go on and be a foster parent and start an organization to raise money for children and families in the foster care system. The building was acquired by the National Park Service (NPS) in 1977 and became part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. In connection with this acquisition, the NPS contracted with Dan and Mary Hountalas as official concessionaires of the property. The NPS renewed its contract with the Hountalas family in 1998, through the family's company, Peanut Wagon, Inc. [16] 2003–2020 [ edit ]

The family that lives there now and again comes to stay for the Summer, and Tamsyn makes friends with their daughter Edie, who is also sixteen.None of the characters in this story are likeable but it's easy to see why they act the way they do. In parts, Tamsyn is a sweet girl in other parts she's quite the menace. I've been to Cornwall and this story drew me that much that I felt I was actually there, especially as I know exactly where there is a Cliff House. The Davenport's have secrets and tragedy. The story is dark and it has a bit of a gothic feel to,it. It's quite a chilling slow burner that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The drawing of that friendship is beautifully balanced, and I found that I could emphasise with each girl. Tamsyn is still grieving for her father and she is unhappy that her mother's friendship with a local man might become a romance; while Edie is burdened by a family situation that she is unable to talk about. Once again, Jennings’ writing is beautiful and draws you in from the start. I finished this book some time ago but it’s subject and the writing style stays with me. I can still see in my mind Tamsyn spying on the house from her vantage point and the image of her walking along the coastal walks. The reader is truly transported to Cornwall. It’s like a toy box and you are going to let them root through it and you are not going to have some new character arrive three quarters of the way in.” Stella receives news on her 40th birthday that, while not a surprise, will definitely be life-changing. She also finds out that the only man she ever loved has moved to her town. Their lives become entwined from day one and give her hope for what she once thought an impossibility – a second chance.

An image of the second Cliff House was used on the cover of the album Imaginos by Blue Öyster Cult. The NPS says that it "is committed to maintaining this iconic building", but that the "solicitation process [for a new vendor] for this operation is currently paused as a result of the pandemic." [19] On February 2, 2021, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a resolution urging the NPS to find an immediate vendor for the restaurant while it searched for a long-term tenant. The Park Service confirmed that they planned to do so. [20] Trademark issues [ edit ]
