With the release of their hotly anticipated 5th studio album, Intellectual Property, Waterparks is once again storming the scene and shapeshifting. Bolder, louder, but more intricate than ever, frontman Awsten Knight experiments with new grounds in songwriting as Waterparks once again creates its own sonic Frankenstein. Take, for example, the breakbeat madness of the FANDOM single “ Turbulent” or the distorted experimentation of “ Numb” from Greatest Hits. Nothing is off the table for Waterparks. I thought “CLOSER” was really nice on the wordplay because it technically also a closer to the album–because “A NIGHT OUT ON EARTH” is a totally different beast–and you’re also talking about being closer to someone. If you want a picture of the past week-plus in the life of Awsten, all you really need to know is that he hasn’t much moved from the desk in his apartment.
