Avoid using pyrethroids in cats as they can be toxic. These are more commonly found in some dog flea treatment products, but are still occasionally seen in cat products. Pyrethrins and permethrin products can also be dangerous to use in cats, but each cat has a different level of sensitivity. One cat may have a seizure from one drop of a pyrethrin or permethrin product while another may have no problem at all. Delivery Method This kitten was covered in fleas and I had to treat her, so I thought I would share with you what my treatment consists of for kittens with fleas that are under 6 weeks of age. How To Treat Kittens With Fleas 1. The Bath What is needed: It depends entirely on the one you buy, of course! You won’t go far wrong when purchasing one of the bottles from our list above, but it’s still important to manage your expectations when it comes to the effectiveness of a multi-purpose tool. Pyrethrins can be toxic to cats in large amounts or if used incorrectly. Make a homemade flea spray by mixing 1 part dish soap with 3 parts water. Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to every cup of water used. Soak a washcloth in your concoction and wring it out well so that it doesn’t drop excessively when sprayed. Apply directly to affected areas, spraying from a distance (about 6 inches) so that you don’t accidentally get any on your cat. Let dry and then repeat once per day until fleas are gone, or you need to reapply after 2 or 3 days. 14) Super Simple Salt SolutionSome ingredients are simply not safe to use as flea treatments in cats. Products specifically designed for dogs are sometimes dangerous to use in cats but even some products labeled or marketed for cats can be harmful. Treat your home: Perform a thorough cleaning of your home, concentrating on carpeting and upholstered surfaces. Make sure to treat your home and surrounding areas to destroy eggs, larvae, and pupating fleas. Fleas on kittens (and on any other animal) can also cause excessive scratching and skin irritation.
