In his free time, Shane loves going for runs and playing with his 16-year-old beagle Butterscotch. Butters for short, she has been the greatest love of his and inspires him everyday, both creatively and emtionally. On top of that, he's now a huge collector. He loves Funko Pop, McFarlane Toys, and Neca's huge line of horror figures. In the last two years he has been going to a lot of conversations to buy an unhealthy amount of figures. This has also allowed him to meet some of his favorite filmmakers/actors like Mike Flanagan, Matthew Lillard, John Carpenter, Grace Caroline Curry, Steve Burns and Kathryn Newton. Part of the problem for this film that’s plagued all past releases is the film style itself. Intercutting 35mm and SD digital elements is a bit jarring so the appearance of the image can fluctuate rapidly within any given scene. The beginning and the film’s climax where the digital camera foolishness isn’t in play genuinely looks terrific and the most stable. With this new scan, details are much stronger than past releases that suffered from edge enhancement and some form of smoothing - especially that terrible Eco Bridge release. Those troubles thankfully aren’t an issue here and film grain has a more natural quality than before. Those previously mentioned digital camera shots come with their own issues, but they’re baked in and can’t really be helped. The film as a whole – 4K and Blu-ray both – takes a slightly darker appearance compared to Scream’s previous 2014 release, but nothing too dramatic. The more time I’ve spent with this transfer the better it got. Especially flipping between 4K discs it became easier and easier to appreciate the small differences and overall improvements that steadily start to add up. It may not be the full bright bold orange tone of the 1999 DVD, but, this is a big step in the right direction. This 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Scream Factory is easily the best looking and the better color balanced transfer we’ve had for this film in the last 20 years. That 2003 Divimax DVD master really set this film on a tough course for the last few disc releases. This new transfer is a welcome middle ground, cool and autumnal but with more natural primary colors, skin tones, and more orange tones with robust details. Outside of John Carpenter actually getting involved and tweaking the thing himself, this is the best we’re likely to see for a while, and I’m pretty damn happy with the results. Casting is analyzed, with Hartnett's terrible hair finally explained, and production challenges are inspected, including the failure to secure a consistent writer/producer Debra Hill, with the pair putting in the effort to elevate what could've been a cheap, exploitative horror film for basic drive-in fine and film-like, and delineation is precise, with extended use of deep shadows and darkness securing Carpenter's visual intent, finding the faint This box set comprises three terrifying films from one of the longest running horror series in cinema history. If you read my blog, last October I did 31 straight days of Halloween material in celebration of the originals 35th anniversary entitled 31 Days Of Halloween. For years and years fans have clamored for a complete box set of the films. And I always told them it was pretty much impossible. There were WAY too many studios that held rights to different sequels. Anchor Bay had 1,4,5 Universal had 2,3 Disney/Miramax had 6-8, Weinstein had Zombies remake and Sony had Robs second outing. Somehow, some way, some MASTERWORK has led to some sublicensing GENIUS and collaboration between Anchor Bay and Scream Factory and theyve combined forces to release the full set. This might be the most exciting thing Anchor Bay has done in like 10 years. This is incredible. And to top it offthe friggin PRODUCERS CUT of Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers is FINALLY coming! Holy crap! I am beyond excited to be once again owning these films for like the 12th or 13th time! CANNOT WAIT til September! Bravo!
