With regards to the mix, it is important to keep all of the particles small, with nothing exceeding 3mm in size. This means that when the bag is full and compressed down, there are no gaps present. From the autumn until the spring I opt for a low- oil type mix, generally light in colour with food items that are soluble and digestible for the carp in the cold water. The only time this will change is during the summer months, when I will switch over to an oily, fishmeal-based mix, where the oils and attraction can disperse well in the warmer water.

This is because when the PVA bag dissolves it can put quite a bit of strain on your fishing line– especially if there are multiple fish feeding on your patch of bait. When casting out, ensure that the PVA mesh doesn't impact the water too forcefully, as this can cause the bait to disperse prematurely. You’ll also want to use a leader material that is quite abrasion resistant. This will help to prevent the PVA from damaging your line as it dissolves. Fluorocarbon leaders are a good option, as they’re both strong and abrasion resistant. As with other types of carp rig, you’ll need to start off with a leader. For solid bags, however, it’s often recommended that you use a slightly heavier leader than normal – something in the 15lb-20lb range. A solid bag rig is a type of carp fishing rig that can be used to catch carp. It consists of a solid PVA bag filled with dry feed bait such as pellets, breadcrumb, chopped boilies, and additives such as salt.

So how should your put together solid bag rig? Well, like other popular carp rigs– there are many ways to do this. Below, we begin breaking up the different sections of a solid bag – then we’ll move on to making them! Solid Bag Leaders Always remember that fishing requires a blend of knowledge, observation, and intuition. While these are guidelines, each angling situation can be unique, so be prepared to adjust your tactics based on conditions and results. How long does PVA Mesh take to dissolve? So, when is the solid bag an effective tactic? There has always been a time and a place for the solid in my angling and when I feel the time arises, the necessary items that are needed to construct a bag and suitable rig are to hand. The PVA bag itself will dissolve in the water within a few minutes, depending on the water temperature and the type of PVA product used. Cold water can slow down the dissolving process, while warm water speeds it up.They are produced within the UK and deliver a vast array of benefits that will help you to put more fish on the bank. Storage Solutions: One of the key factors that determine the longevity and effectiveness of your PVA products is how they're stored.

Your rig is placed inside the solid bag, with the aim that once cast into the lake and settled on the bottom – the solid bag will dissolve releasing your rig, hook bait, and dry feed. Years ago I started tying my bags or mesh to the hooklink swivel or above the lead, but Gardner and other brands now make PVA bag swivels or clips. It's easy enough to tie a bag on and hook the outside corner, so you can have ready prepared bags or mesh. On average, if you're not getting bites or seeing activity after about 30 minutes to an hour, it might be worth recasting. However, this is a general guideline and can vary based on the specific conditions and environment. I feel the bag is most successful in a couple of situations; firstly, at those times when the fish are up for a feed but are not necessarily feeding hard on bait. These times may be when the water temperatures are low, or the pressure is high, whereby a well-placed solid bag can trip up a half-hearted feeding fish when a baiting approach may work against you. These readymade leadcore leaders have been designed for speedy fishing – allowing you to take advantage of what might be short feeding windows!Finding fish will always be the number one tip to catching carp, however, setting up your solid bag rig to give you the best chance is key for this method of fishing. But what makes this tactic so good and are there times when another approach may be a better option? This feature takes a close look at my approach with solid bags, how I use them to great effect and constructing them from start to finish.

Predatory species: Pike or perch are enticed by movement and may respond more favourably to a PVA mesh presentation filled with wriggling maggots or worms. Tie a standard hair rig with your chosen hook and length of hooklink material (like braid, fluorocarbon, or monofilament).

When using PVA mesh, one of the best rigs for PVA bags and mesh is the hair rig. Here's a basic outline: The aim is to create a small patch of bait strategically around your hook bait to attract carp to feed, increasing the chances of a bite! On average, in moderate water temperatures, PVA mesh might take anywhere from a couple of minutes to about 20 minutes to fully dissolve. It's always a good idea to test the specific mesh you're using in the water conditions you're fishing in to get an accurate dissolution time. Thanks to a spliced loop, they can be simply looped on and off your main line, which means that you can tie several in preparation for hauling and loop a new one on in an instant! Bream and Tench: These fish sift through the substrate for food and are likely to be attracted to the dense baiting zones created by PVA bags.
