Just curious, are these instructions you listed above from the manufacturer? I bought my Zerostat new and my box did not include any written manual instructions. Does it really require 4 squeezes/releases per record? Somehow I thought it just needs one squeeze/release and that's it. Also, I thought both squeeze and release should be aimed at the record at all times, no?

What I do now(found it mentioned in the forums here) and it's been working real good, is I use the Zerostat as per instructions above, plus I brush the record when it starts to spin with an Audioquest brush, but, and this is funny, you have to moisten the fingers with which you hold the brush's metal body while you are brushing a record, and with the fingers on your other hand also slightly moistened, touch something that is grounded, in my case it's the Pro-Ject Speedbox. I guess the static just gets released better this way.

I get the same from guys who have been washing their LPs with ammonia or Windex for decades. They get the results they want. It's no problem, to each their own. Nothing wrong with learning new ideas though, IMHO. Prior to trying it on an actual record, I discovered that it didn't spark. It having nothing attached to it to ground the spark, I thought it was broken. That is, until my hand got a little too close to the electrode. Zap city! So now I know that part works! :O

I have an original red body Zerostat and it works as advertised to remove static from my vinyl. I zap each LP after cleaning before I put it in the MoFi sleeve and again just before I play any LP. Maybe overkill doing this before putting in antistatic sleeves but takes literally 10 seconds to do. The Zerostat does not require batteries, and it’s good for approximately 50,000 squeezes. (That’s plenty to last a significant amount of time!) If you need to test the gun, simply attach the included ion indicator to the end of the pistol and squeeze the handle. If all is well, the attachment will glow red. Imagine a record having a triangular shape(the spindle hole being the center). Hold the Zerostat approximately 12" away from the record surface and slowly squeeze the trigger at each of the three "corner points" of the record. Take about 2 seconds to squeeze and 2 seconds to release at each of these locations.
