Note I’m using gloves. You can use ordinary washing up gloves if you like. The wax isn’t all that hot, but if you’re going to be doing this hundreds of times you will want to avoid nerve damage to your digits, because like you, they need to feel things. There are now so many ways to light the fire in a woodburner, and let's face it, not all woodburners are the same so what works for some, may not work for others. Since we are trying to avoid fossil fuel derived products wherever possible, we avoid using paraffin wax and make candles(and firelighters) using natural beeswax.

Once you have melted your wax, it is time to add it to the tinder materials, or to add the tinder materials to it. Forming Your Firelighters The biggest problem is how many firelighter bundles you need. Push all your charcoal into a pile if you don’t have a bbq starter and pile it as has as possible. This gives you the best chance of the flame filtering it’s way through and catching light to your charcoal.
