Description

A lightweight tile-laying dungeon crawler, that’s plenty of fun and comes with bags of playability. Collect spells, potions and armour. Use ranged weapons to fight from afar, or get up close with your trusty sword to defeat your foes. A randomly generated dungeon crawler – no two games are the same! Battle classic monsters, goblins, trolls, skeletons and more. Can you defeat the fearsome Red Dragon who guards the exit? Find magical items and powerful weapons to upgrade your characters We have created simple rules, solid mechanics and a populated world, but we never promised an easy ride. Most of the time, that’s up to you. The deliberately divisive element within Bag of Dungeon (the appearance of the Ring) that pits player against player is there for your own moral conscience – it’s not mandatory. You decide. And sometimes, just sometimes, no matter how well you play, no matter how strong the bond of loyalty between you all, the dungeon layout and the monsters you encounter will be nothing short of a suicide mission. Review: Bag Of Dungeon By Gunpowder Studios - Blogger Review: Bag Of Dungeon By Gunpowder Studios - Blogger

Play solo, cooperative or competitively with up to 4 players. Delve deeper and deeper into the catacombs to find the Ring and try to get out alive. Includes Standard (simple) or Advanced rules This is a cute kind of fold in the game which should make for the major moments of tension. Will you suddenly sell out those you’ve been fighting and exploring with so far? Or will you all attempt to leave together? In truth, it’s more fun to destroy your friends than to succeed together, so that’ll be what happens. This can lead to a fairly cynical kind of game being played, where you’re hoping the dungeon itself will soften your friend up for a final treacherous blow. Bag of Dungeon is a much lighter game than most crawlers. It’s so easy to explain how it works, I could probably teach my pug to play. Because of the ease of play, it’s a great one to play with kids. There’s very little downtime, and because the main game is co-operative, players are pretty invested in what each other player does on their turn. Certain player characters are stronger against certain monster types for example, so you can talk among yourselves and decide who gets pushed into the monster and has the door slammed behind them. Yesterday night I played with my 15-year-old son Niklas. After a great tagging-fight, I offered him the best weapons & items, just assuring me he won’t use those against me.I’ve described the game as simple a few times, but that is in no way a bad thing. Having a rulebook you can read from cover to cover in under ten minutes is incredibly refreshing. But just because the rules are simple, doesn’t mean the game is an easy ride, which once again adds to its repeat playability. In a time when board games are getting bigger both in size and price tag, Bag of Dungeon is a refreshing alternative to those games that come in boxes so big it takes two to carry. But don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the game. The dungeons can be hard, sometimes almost unbeatable. And because every dungeon is different, it will keep you fighting, looting and dying over and again for many happy hours. While not exactly lush in production, Bag of Dungeon does what it says on the, er, bag. If you want random dungeon exploration and dice-bashing, then here it is. Buy your copy here

Bag of Dungeon: Fantasy Board Game - Gunpowder Studios

We always intended for Bag of Dungeon to be at times challenging and at other times relatively straightforward. Critically, we wanted each play to be unpredictable; a trip into the unknown. What we never wanted to do was control or subdue its unpredictability, because this is essential, possibly defining, element of adventure. That’s the lure of a dungeon crawler, surely? That’s what gets your heart beating a little faster as you ready your sword, right? Plenty of games have players returning to the table specifically because they don’t promise an easy ride. An obvious example, thematically at least, is DungeonQuest, which is celebrated in no small part for its casual brutality and the tension that arises from the game’s cruel indifference to your survival. Another is Shadowrun: Crossfire which, despite some criticism of its difficulty to win, makes it into respected reviewer Rahdo’s top ten games of the past five years. And few games have their players leaping for joy at winning against the odds like The Mind. Let’s face it, we love a challenge, and we shun easy. But what we really love is not knowing how things will pan out. While a lot of the early development and playtesting was about simply making it work mechanically, much of the later development focused on game balance, specifically how challenging the game should be for players. Too easy and it would be no kind of adventure. Too challenging and players would become dispirited at the prospect of yet another defeat, and the game would inevitably become exclusively available at all good car boot sales or charity shops.

A great family game introducing players to fantasy tabletop gaming. Small, lightweight and perfect for home, holiday or travel. Includes 11 additional Dragon Scroll quests
