Kudi left Brighton on 5 December and went to London, where she spent her birthday with her boyfriend. On 7 December she attended a concert in Elephant and Castle.

The family, who went missing early January, were thought to be travelling around the country and living outdoors, sparking concerns for the newborn's welfare. Before their arrest at Stanmer Villas earlier this week, it had been over a month since they were last spotted in Newhaven (January 8). The infant was born in early January and has had no medical attention since then, with his parents sleeping rough in freezing temperatures much of the time. Basford earlier told the BBC the search covered a “vast area”. He said: “The arrest location was close to open land and the couple were moving towards that land. And that’s why we are focusing heavily on where we are right now. While the seafront is one of the city’s biggest attractions for families, if you’re looking for some green space during your trip to Brighton with kids, Preston Park is the biggest in Brighton.

The senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, said police were making assessments on the baby’s welfare “on the hour, by the hour”. Kudi’s flat was one of eight in a housing complex run by YMCA DownsLink to house vulnerable young families on behalf of Brighton city council. Mr Basford said: "My team has been working on this investigation for the past eight weeks and we have travelled across the country as part of our searches for this baby. Founded as a Victorian collector’s private museum, the Booth Museum is one of those slightly eccentric collections that the UK seems to specialise in – endless cases of birds displayed in their natural setting (complete with eagles pouncing on lambs) plus skeletons and dinosaur bones. We would like to thank again the member of the public whose information led to the arrests, the huge number of people who came forward with information and those who have volunteered to assist with the searches. We will continue to support the Metropolitan Police as they conduct their investigation, and the wider community as we all come to terms with this tragedy. The case was adjourned to a provisional sentencing date of 28 May, but Kudi was warned this may be delayed.
