It has three removable foam layers so you can easily adjust its height and comfort to suit you. Simply remove one of the three layers of foam to find the right height for you. Ultra-durable three-layer construction What makes Emma Premium Microfibre better than some other pillows is the fact that they've really hit the nail on the head when it comes to what an adjustable pillow should be. It's soft, fluffy, offers excellent support and doesn't get warm – what more could you wish for in a pillow? How did we test the product?

After a few nights of testing and thinking about actually what it meant to have a temperature regulating pillow, our minds changed. We're not especially hot sleepers, but what we found is that although the rest of us was warm, our heads maintained a comfortable temperature with no over-heating (which is something that we can sometimes experience memory foam pillows). We wouldn’t normally include the same brand twice, but Simba’s Stratos is sufficiently different from the Hybrid pillow at the top of this list to justify separate billing. It’s cheaper, for a start, but the main selling-point is the Stratos material used for the cover. Feather pillows may be made of natural materials, but they are not suitable for vegans or people prone to allergies. 🌱 There's no mistaking that this is an Emma pillow – you'll see that a branded label on the cover and on each insert. It's coloured in the same dark blue as the piping around the edges of the pillow so it's all very on-brand, and looks crisp against the white pillow material. I liked sleeping on this pillow far more than I thought I would based on first appearances alone, as it is flat and – to be frank – a bit odd looking. It is 60cm in length, so slightly shorter than the standard 70cm, which means it looks a little sad and small in my pillowcase. However, I rapidly changed my tune when I lay down on it. It is supremely supportive and comfortable once you lie down, and the hypoallergenic bamboo pillow cover is very soft to the touch.

Removing the foam layers takes a little bit of skill: rather than trying to remove layers one at a time (we found this made it feel like the foam might tear), take all three out of the case in one go, remove the layer you don’t want, and replace the other two together. Tests of the Emma Pillow were carried out over the course of a month. I also have the Emma mattress, so it was good to test the pillow alongside the brand's mattress too. I assessed how the pillow affected my sleep and upper body stiffness and pain. What were the results? Both of the inner pillows are filled with 100% microfibre. Even though one of the pillows is plushier than the other, they are essentially the same. As we mentioned above, memory foam isn’t great for the environment – it’s hard to recycle, and whether it’s recyclable at all depends on your local facilities and the exact kind of foam you’re using. It would be good to see two of the leading synthetic fill companies taking the lead on this.

The verdict: Which should you buy?

Even though you can customise the height and feel of the Emma memory foam pillow, it won't feel like your traditional pillow. The pillow is super easy to adjust and its temperature regulation technology makes it very comfortable. The cover of the Emma pillow is made of98% polyester and 2% elastane. They used these materials for two main reasons. Polyester is a very breathable material and it’s great for keeping the pillow cool during the night. Elasthan is a material that as the name suggests is very elastic which is needed for a modular pillow. The cover stays close to the layers regardless of how many you use. This is very important as you don’t want a loose cover that doesn’t keep the layers together. The cover is removable and you can machine wash it at a low temperature. The design is simple but it looks nice and feels soft. It features a white colour with grey details on the edges. Overall, I really liked their cover as it is very functional. Support

If you encounter any manufacturing issues within 2 years, such as seams coming apart or a faulty zip, you're protected by this guarantee. 🛡️ The Tempur Ombracio is specially designed and shaped for front sleepers, with a star-like shape and the distinctive dimpled texture of all Tempur products. After wondering how on earth to find a pillowcase to fit it - really not necessary - I settled down to test it out and… eight hours later, I woke up.

Importantly, the Hypnia Cloud Pillow is hypoallergenic and OEKO-Tex® certified, which assures no harmful substances are used in its manufacturing. Combination sleepers who change position a lot in the night will need a more responsive and versatile pillow. Look for one with a malleable or fluffable fill that you can mould into a shape that suits you, or find one with an adjustable fill so that you can find your own perfect loft. Before moving on with our Emma pillow review, we wanted to talk to you about some of the features that make this pillow special and unique. Polyester pillowcase with microfiber Unlike the Emma mattress which does arrive with an odd smell, the pillow didn’t smell at all, and it doesn’t need to be left to breath before use.
