In the comic books, Lucille continues on after Negan is put in prison. She is wielded by Dwight for a long time while Negan is rotting in a cell. During that time Dwight does not use her as his main weapon but keeps her almost to spite Negan. Kain, Erik. "Negan Isn't The Only Thing Ruining 'The Walking Dead' But He Still Needs To Go". Forbes.

Several years after the end of The Walking Dead, Maggie seeks out the help of Negan, revealing that Hershel has been kidnapped and taken to a walker-infested Manhattan by a man known only as the Croat. In the years since the defeat of Pamela Milton and Lance Hornsby, Maggie has been forced to abandon the original Hilltop due to the damage from the Whisperers ultimately being too severe to repair, instead relocating the community to a rural factory complex in either New York or New Jersey. This new Hilltop was raided by the Croat who Maggie had recognized as a former Savior from his use of Savior tactics and, in particular, the whistle that the Saviors had used to intimidate their victims. The two agree to a deal where Maggie will allow Negan's young companion Ginny to live at the Hilltop in exchange for his help. In the intervening years, Negan has returned to many of his old ways while an unknown fate has befallen Annie and his child. Negan is being hunted by marshals from the New Babylon Federation for supposedly committing five murders, but Negan himself states that things didn't go as the marshals claim that they did. It is shown in the comics that Negan acquired Lucille after her original owner, Paul, was killed by roamers. Negan is the one who wraps Lucille in barbed wire and gives her the killer reputation she possesses by the time we see her in the show. He is also still the one who gave her the name Lucille after his dead wife. This clearly upsets Negan as he asks for her to be returned to him. When Michone tells Negan that Lucille was abandoned he becomes visibly upset and beats his head against his cell wall. This shows his clear attachment to the bat and also how much weaker he feels without her by his side. In season 8, Negan vaguely states that he helped young people improve upon their weaknesses and molded them into stronger individuals. In the season 10 episode " Here's Negan", he is portrayed as having been a high school gym teacher. Negan later met a woman named Lucille and the pair fell in love and married. Over time, however, Negan began cheating on her. She found out about the affair and he begged her forgiveness, which she granted. Around this time, Negan was fired from his job because he assaulted a man whose kids went to the school he taught at because the man had insulted his wife. In the onset of the outbreak, Negan ventured out into the walker-filled wilderness to find medicine for Lucille's pancreatic cancer, but when he returned, he found that she had died and become a walker. He cannot bring himself to put his wife down; this act of weakness would continue to haunt him and thus Negan strived to become a much stronger person. Goldberg, Lesley (November 10, 2015). " 'Walking Dead' Casts Major Comics Villain Negan". The Hollywood Reporter . Retrieved November 10, 2015.During Gabriel and Negan's walk into the Sanctuary, Negan uses Lucille to kill several walkers after they are detected, helping to open a path for the two men to safety.

Lucille is seen in the comic books about as often as she is seen in the television show. Which is to say, every time you see Negan. The introduction in the comics is very similar to the one seen on television and equally, if not more, gory. The last time we see Lucille is the end of season eight. At the end of season eight, we see Lucille left behind as Negan is dragged to prison. She is left alone in a field and never seen again on the television show. And so, here we are: one final pit stop before the final ever season of The Walking Dead. These six bridge episodes have laid the groundwork for the forthcoming 11th chapter of the long-running zombie series with a fairly decent mix of bonus stories. We’ve seen the re-introduction of Maggie, learned of Daryl’s previously untold dalliance with Leah and got up-close-and-personal with the suspect soldiers of the Commonwealth. To cap it all off, season 10C concludes with a Negan-centric instalment that explores his mysterious pre-Saviors days. Here’s what went down… Pruner, Aaron (December 3, 2015). "Jeffrey Dean Morgan's reaction to playing Negan on 'The Walking Dead' is perfect". Screener . Retrieved December 3, 2015. The camp's sadistic warden (Michael Weaver) singles Negan out for his harshest abuse, determined to break him and use him to keep the other prisoners in line, but Negan remains defiant and makes an uneasy alliance with Ezekiel to plan an escape. The warden foils the escape attempt, however, and lines up Negan, Ezekiel, and Annie to be executed via firing squad. At the last moment, Negan and Ezekiel manage to convince the soldiers not to let the warden turn them into murderers, and they turn on their hated boss. Maggie, Gabriel, and Rosita then arrive to free them.Lucille is then used to beat Glenn to death in front of all of his friends and his wife. Every character is left to watch in horror as one of their best friends is brutally beaten to death in front of them all. The television show stayed relatively true to this and made sure Glenn’s death was just as gory and horrifying as it was in the comic. In the second installment, we learn that Negan’s wife has cancer. We also learn that, after Negan finds out his wife’s diagnosis, he has an affair to help him emotionally cope with her illness. In the third installment, however, Negan tells his wife about the affair and ends it, deciding to rededicate his life to his wife, to be there by her side. Unfortunately, his wife’s condition continues to deteriorate. The last thing we see before the season ends is Negan choosing who to kill by pointing Lucille at each person while saying “eenie, meenie, miny, mo” before finally landing on a person and beating them to death with Lucille. This sets the tone for how we will view both Negan and Lucille for the rest of the series. In " Here's Negan", it's revealed that Lucille was left near the tree where the war had ended and over time was buried under the grass. Negan dug it up and used it on a nearby zombified Whisperer only for it to break due to it deteriorating over time. He then ended up burning it in a nearby cabin.
