Kandi’s heroes always have a vulnerable side that makes me weak in the knees- and Zeke lets his feelings fly openly, and it made him all the more dreamy. This series features tropes like enemies to lovers, forced proximity, he falls first, teammate’s little sister, single dad, inexperienced Hero, bad boy/good girl, fake marriage, and more!It’s a mix of the classic enemies to lovers tossed up with a bunch of other things that really presents their relationship in a brilliantly unique way. The third act conflict was objectively stupid, but I've come to expect that when I read romance at this point.

Zeke who she crushed on as a kid and till he slid behind the wheel of the car that almost ended her brother’s life. It really pulled at my heartstrings how much her words would hurt him… but I really respected him for confronting her about it in a reasonable timeframe… so I let it slide in the moment. Even though she's the only girl on the team, she fights for a dorm in athlete housing and ends up rooming with Zeke. Riley wants nothing to do with Zeke, but that's not possible when they're playing on the same team together and end up living together as roommates. Riley, Zeke and Gavin (Riley’s twin brother) have known each other for years having grown up together.

I was two seconds away from knocking my fist ba I think it’s so awesome that Kandi put a female kicker on the team and I love how it shaped Riley and Zeke’s relationship. It was really sweet that he trusted her to share that part of himself, BUT she had to go and ruin it.

There were a lot of tropes played out in this book: best friends brother, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, sports romance. For Riley, football isn’t the end goal and she has no intention of going pro because she wants a job in art—a museum or gallery—but she pours herself into this like her life depends on it. I also loved how they both played football together and it was great being able to see how easily jealous Zeke got when the other guys on the team would flirt with her 🤭. I never realized how much of a sucker I am for this kind of dynamic and thanks to Kandi, the craving for more of it has only intensified.As two athletes, there’s this unique understanding and appreciation that Zeke and Riley have for each other and what they do. And there are some delightfully endearing secondary characters (and few deplorable ones) that make this story all the richer and more captivating. He has his own baggage, and has to come to terms with his own self-worth given some mistakes, but he’s an all around beautiful soul. The Kings of the Ice series is a series of interconnected standalones following a team of professional hockey players and the women who bring them to their knees. The way she used his insecurities and his past against him in such a venomous way was super treacherous and nasty. Kandi Steiner is a new to me, author, although, I have had many of her books on my wishlist for quite a while. but I’m so excited to see more of the stories from his universe, because Kandi’s college/sports romances have always won me over. Now, it’s trying to get you to fix what’s not even broken, because it wasn’t your set up or your steps that missed those kicks.After Riley's twin brother is in an accident that leaves him paralyzed, she makes him a promise to play football. I was two seconds away from knocking my fist back and socking Kyle in the nose Helga Pataki style when he was ripped backward by his t-shirt, and Zeke caught him just before his back slammed into the lockers. An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. I’m a firm believer in, if you’re not comfortable writing about it or you simply don’t know enough then don’t. I loved Blind Side so I decided to go back and read Fair Catch so I can then read the rest of the books.
