Description

The Hisense U7QF is a 55-inch LED LCD TV which uses a Full Array Local Dimming (FALD) backlight with 72 separate zones. Find BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and Demand 5 programs along with over 60 TV channels and up to 15 HD channels. But remember we are being picky here when reviewing and in real life circumstances, for the majority of consumers, the Hisense performs extremely well with SDR content.

Alexa is available through the Remote Now app (iOS and Android), and it’s happy to ‘work with’ Google Assistant via external speakers. Game mode boosts your chances of scoring legendary wins by the specs that are one step ahead of the console. HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma HDR) is a standard user-generated and broadcast format that is set to become the standard for transmitting 4K signals. Inspired by film technology, Dolby Vision HDR technology™ offers reflections up to 40 times brighter and black 10 times darker than the standard dynamic range, resulting in stunning brightness, color, contrast, detail and dimensionality. The opening scene of John Wick: Chapter 2 and the headlights and taillights of cars, as well as the wet shiny surfaces ‘pop’ off the screen.so well below the visible threshold of three and we couldn’t see any issues with TV and film viewing. The usual Gravity torture test (Sandra Bullock floating off into the darkness of space surrounded in stars) catches it out with lots of star crushing present, but we didn’t expect it to pass that test anyway. Any off-board soundbar with a sub will better the performance, but as a workhorse for normal TV duties, the onboard system is certainly good enough to start with. Smart TV is provided by the company’s own VIDAA U4 system and we found it very easy to use and responsive.

We use Calman colour calibration software, a Murideo Seven Generator and Klein K-10A meter for measurement and calibration. The solid, tidy and full-featured remote control is well-appointed and features a handful of shortcut buttons to the main video services. From an explosive, blockbuster action movie to the latest BBC documentary, experience every detail in striking 4K - four times the resolution as Full HD. During setup, we were even presented with a prompt to watch Netflix, making it abundantly clear that the dominant TV streaming service had paid a premium to maintain pride of place on 2020 Hisense TVs.Dolby builds a deeper connection to the stories and characters you love and takes your entertainment to new heights when you stream your favourite shows and the best movies. As such we feel it deserves a recommendation on those merits, hardcore enthusiasts probably need to look elsewhere, but you already knew that. In a well-lit room, HDR content once again looks accurate with stunning colours and nice dynamic range on offer. It also supports Dolby Atmos, with internal decoding built-in and an immersive experience created through the application of psychoacoustic processing.

Ultra Smooth Motion and Clear motion were also switched off and the Local Dimming was left at default in Cinema Night mode. Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more. Quick and easy to set up (with help from a tech savvy son) and no fiddling with settings as all good straight out of the box. While it looks premium, it’s very compact and buttons are tightly packed, and that can lead to the wrong buttons being pressed.

The Hisense U7QF has a number of calibration controls available including a 2 and 20 point white balance for greyscale correction, a gamma adjustment for gamma calibration at 5% levels as well as a full Colour Management System (CMS). A lot is crammed into a small amount of space, but the design feels relatively unique, which is notable in a flooded television market. Image accuracy is also very good with excellent calibrated images and decent HDR performance thanks to Dolby Vision dynamic metadata.

As most streaming services now provide DV content as well as a growing catalogue of UHD Blu-rays, you should be able to get the best out of the U7QF. In day to day use, we didn't have any issues with the sound system performance with voices sounding clear and distinguishable, with a good stereo soundstage to either side of the set. There’s none of the headline features here, so if a brand-new console is of interest then the Hisense is not optimised for it.This cookie is a performance cookie used for internal Bazaarvoice web analytics, to be correlated to the same user for interactions within a particular client domain. Of all the TV's sound modes, Theatre gives the best possible sense of space and, even if weightless and uninspiring, at least the dialogue and the rest of the audio is easy to hear. The latter two add dynamic metadata to the HDR signal, optimising the performance to give the Hisense a better chance at HDR with its relative 700 nits of (peak) brightness.
