Psychologist Susan Krauss Whitbourne points out, “anxiety can translate very directly into an unconscious leg-shaking or foot-tapping. I don't agree with some parts which involve stereotyping, but overall the main message is 'look for the context, then try to understand people'. Structured training modules aren’t required to improve — many have been able to develop the skill by constantly listening and observing actively in everyday life. These coping mechanisms were very surface-level stuff, for example using denial or repression as a way to deal with your emotions is very common and it doesn't take a book to figure out that someone is in denial or repressing their emotions by ignoring them. If not, it should be, given that so many of us would be greatly helped by a more precise understanding of body language and its meaning.

Are we really capable of knowing what's inside other people's minds, what they're feeling, or what their plans are? In under 200 pages, the author manages to give an entertaining discussion of gestures and body language that looks at how we use nonverbal communication in a variety of ways. D says that when it comes to posture, look for if they hold their high in a confident manner, or if they walk indecisively or cower, which indicates low self-esteem. I understand if it's said at the beginning or end but hearing it in every chapter was very repetitive. It is remarkable, given the extent to which communication is nonverbal, that we are often so unobservant about it, but at least I can say that I know a few people who are quite insightful about my body language and gestures, even if they are not the sort of people I would most wish to be able to read me like a book. But the prerequisite to reading personalities properly is that you first understand your own personality. I feel like the body cues King used as an example to read people were just obvious things any person who hasn't read this book can probably pick up on and understand.

Read People Like a Book: How to Analyze, Understand, and Predict People’s Emotions, Thoughts, Intentions, and Behaviors” is a good self-help book to change your life. This can be a positive thing, such as physical attraction, or an unconscious manifestation of stress from being the center of attention. Are their feet pointing towards the door because they’re not interested or did their feet just land like that? In this show, Vanessa and I give you the 7 micro expressions, specific ways to recognize them, and why they are important.
