About this deal

Small tweaking for collimation was done this morning on the 12x60's after I had them out yesterday and thought that the collimation was spot on. The right eye focus is no better, and as it is not stiff enough, you can easily knock the adjustment. Encased in black protective rubber armor, the Skymaster 12x60s feel fairly secure in the hand even when using them in inclement weather. Celestron’s SkyMaster Series of large aperture binoculars are a phenomenal value for high performance binoculars ideal for astronomical viewing or for terrestrial (land) use - especially over long distances. This high-density glass offers much better optical quality than the less desirable BK-7 glass that is generally found on very basic models, giving a better low-light performance.

They are adjustable for eyeglasses wearers up to 17mm but are of the flip-down variety and we’d love to see these follow suit with some of Celestron’s other binoculars and have twist-down eyecups so that those who require it can fine-tune their placement during use. Really pleased with our new binoculars, they are exactly what we need and they were described very well by pic stop prior to purchase. The larger the aperture, the bigger the binoculars, but more importantly, a larger aperture draws in more light and lets you see more detail in shadow, shade, and other low light conditions. The measurement is in millimeters and is taken from the last lens surface to the point beyond the eyepiece where all the rays of light come to focus and form a sharp image.

Nothing was wrong with them, as a matter of fact, the collimation on the 15x70's proved to be excellent after fiddling with one of the screws. The center of the views are sharp, but there is a noticeable fall-off in clarity as you get closer to the edges of the frame. The tree in the foreground is blurry becasue the focus was set for the factory behind the tree where you see the smoke rising out. We have spent a couple of weeks trying them out and we think they are an excellent choice for amateur astronomy, bird watching, and nature spotting. SkyMasters are equipped with high-quality BaK-4 prisms for better light transmission and multi-coated lenses to help not only with brightness, but also to enhance the contrast and colors.

This design is used for small compact binoculars where the eyepieces are more widely spaced than the main optics.
